Community Apple Days 2019

Tiverton Pannier Market Saturday October 12th 10am – 3pm

Sampford Peverell Village Hall Saturday October 26th 11am – 3pm

Each autumn we hold an Apple Day event in late October, at which any spare apples can be brought for juicing instead of rotting under the tree. We create a mixed ‘community juice’ for sale, and allow families to take home their own apple juice made by using our equipment. The equipment, including a macerator and hydro-press, was bought using a National Lottery grant in 2010, and it is available for hire by local groups.

In recent years we have held successful Apple Days at Sampford Peverell village hall, with live music and home-cooked lunches and cakes, making for an enjoyable and productive day. Our aim is to encourage people to make use of an abundant local resource that is often wasted and left to rot. By having their apples turned into juice, they will be able to drink it fresh, freeze it for later use, or make cider from it. We also aim to encourage people to buy locally-produced goods from the market stalls, thus cutting down food-miles and supporting the local economy. The refreshments are made from locally-sourced produce, following through with the same principle.
